Welcome to the fundamentals of Fair Isle knitting. In this class, your teacher, Tammy, will guide you through the basics of this classic technique, while giving you the confidence and skills to complete a cotton pot-holder.

This class is designed for knitters who are confident with the knit and purl stitch and working in the round on circular needles.

Skills taught:

  • ​​Choosing colours for your project
  • Different ways to hold yarns
  • Catching floats
  • Magic loop
  • Correct tensioning to avoid tight fabric

What you will need:

  • 1 x 3.00mm 100cm long circular needle
  • 1 x 3.00mm 40cm long circular needle (optional, if you don't want to use the Magic Loop method)
  • 2 x 50g balls of 8 ply 100% cotton or 100% Mercerised cotton (1 ball each of two high contrasting shades) Cotton blends not recommended for this project.

When you have completed this class, you will have started and have acquired the skills to complete a cotton pot-holder.
