May17 KAL - Chunky Knit Throw
Teekay > 18 April 2017
Hi. Welcome to Teekays Yarns first KAL (Knit Along) scheduled to start on Monday May 1.
What is a KAL you ask? A KAL or Knit-Along is when a group of knitters make the same project at the same time. Each Monday in May for 4 weeks, Teekays will release via this blog, a block of pattern to be knitted up.
I have chosen a beginner’s sampler throw for the May KAL in the hopes that many of you who would like to learn how to knit, can use the techniques in this simple throw to build up your skills. As this is not a mystery KAL, I will have a picture of the finished throw available on the website for reference and for purchase of materials. This throw is also available as a kit here in 4 different colourways.
Heirloom Merino Magic Chunky 100% pure premium Australian wool 125g/120m
The finished throw measures approximately 78cm x 140cm. I have used 2 balls of 4 different colours, but you can use any combination of colours or all one colour if you like. The choice is yours. For the same size throw as the one pictured, 8 balls in total are needed.
GAUGE: The gauge needed is approx. 10 sts x 14 rows in stockinette stitch on 9mm needles. The gauge is not terribly critical in this piece as there will be slight differences in the size of the squares due to varying stitch patterns anyway.
You will need a pair of 30cm 9.00mm knitting needles.
